The Female Gaze: Carol Reynolds’ Captivating Art Event in Dúrcal
During the month of August, I had the opportunity to share my work in a local setting—Salón del Monte in Dúrcal. A community bar where dominoes are played by the men throughout the morning and women enjoy coffee, cake and a chat in the evening. Then to be joined. in the evenings, by families and friends for a round of drinks, catch up and tapa. This expo, The Female Gaze, was more than just an exhibition; it was an intimate experience where art and conversation came together to explore the world through a woman’s eyes. And generate discussion. It did.
For years, I’ve been captivated by the idea of how women see and are seen—not as passive or sexual objects but as complex individuals with their own stories, perspectives, and power. This expo was my way of challenging traditional artistic narratives, often found in these rural towns, I was inviting the audience to engage with the raw emotions, struggles, and triumphs of the women I paint.

The Event – Saturday 24th August.
Walking into Salón del Monte that evening, I could feel a quiet buzz of anticipation. The newly renovated bar, open and modern, stripped of rustic traditions set the stage for a night of connection through art.
As people moved through the space, I watched them pause—sometimes in deep thought, sometimes in quiet conversation—as they took in the pieces. I saw eyes lingering on certain works longer than others, Some visitors shared their interpretations with me, and I found myself seeing my own art through fresh perspectives.
We were entertained by the funky music of Fauno, a local musician, who had our feet tapping to his looping trumpet.

Gratitude and Art
One of the most rewarding aspects of the night was seeing the entire experience captured in photos.
That evening, as I stood among the people who came to see my work, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Art has the power to open hearts and minds, and I couldn’t have asked for a more meaningful way to share this vision.

The Journey Continues
This expo was just one step in a much larger journey. My hope is that The Female Gaze continues to resonate.
I’m now compiling a larger collection for my first solo exhibition RAW. To be held in October at the Chicken Farm Gallery in Orgiva. Watch this space.

Thank you. Carol Reynolds
